Children’s Oncology Group (COG) offers trusted educational resources to help patients, families, and caregivers better understand childhood cancer, treatment, and life beyond diagnosis. From the first days after diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and follow-up care, these tools are designed to provide reliable guidance at every stage of the journey.
COG’s patient and family education resources include practical guides for newly diagnosed patients, caregiving at home, adolescent and young adult support, and long-term survivorship. Developed by COG experts, these tools help families better understand what to expect, make informed decisions, and access support throughout treatment and beyond.
Resources are available in multiple languages and formats for printing or digital viewing, making them accessible to patients and families. These resources were created by the COG Nursing Committee and are provided to patients and families at no cost through the generosity of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
The COG Family Handbook is a trusted guide for families navigating childhood and adolescent cancer. It provides reliable information about diagnosis, treatment, supportive care, and life during and after treatment, helping families better understand and manage each stage of care.
The COG KidsCare App gives families mobile access to trusted COG Family Handbook content, along with practical tools to help manage care throughout treatment. Features include searchable educational content, appointment tracking, and journaling tools to help families stay organized and informed.
The app is available in English, Spanish, and French in the Google Play and Apple App Store.
The New Diagnosis Guide and the New Diagnosis Guide for Teens and Young Adults are written for patients and families learning about a new cancer diagnosis and are designed to use alongside the COG Family Handbook for focused teaching of essential content at the time of diagnosis.

COG’s Long‑Term Follow‑Up Guidelines were developed as a resource for clinicians who provide ongoing healthcare to survivors of pediatric malignancies. As a companion to the COG’s Long‑Term Follow‑Up Guidelines a series of Health Links have been developed to provide more in‑depth information about some of the more common late effects.
Several of our patient and family resources are provided in additional languages beyond English, French, and Spanish thanks to volunteers from COG member institutions.
Clinical trials are research studies that test how well new medical approaches, such as drugs, treatments, or screening methods, work in people to improve care and quality of life. These studies are carefully designed and monitored to ensure safety and effectiveness, rely on voluntary participation, and are essential for turning scientific discoveries into real-world patient treatments.
